Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care
Helping You Find Your Way
The COMPASS Dementia Navigation Program is a unique specialty-care program designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other cognitive impairment.
We offer a secured environment that supports the resident’s abilities to safely perform everyday tasks. As the disease progresses, our goal is to continue to support the resident in remaining holistically stable. We believe the individual’s family, friends, representatives and primary caregivers must be included in the assessment and care process, as they play an integral role in the individual’s well-being.
Through knowledgeable staff and robust therapeutic life enrichment programs, Certus Healthcare is committed to providing services that improve the quality of life for individuals with cognitive impairments.
Skilled Staff
This unique population requires caregivers to fully understand the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental challenges that come with cognitive impairment illnesses. The staff at Certus Healthcare receives specialized training in caring for these individuals.
Specifically, staff are taught to:
- Support the residents’ choices in their daily living routines.
- Focus on the individual’s strengths and abilities.
- Emphasize the story and personhood of each resident.
- Understand the importance of integrating the individual’s behavior rather than attempting to manage it.
Safely Secured Environment
Due to the nature of cognitive impairment, it is understandable that a resident’s behavior often causes them to wander. Through the following methods, Certus Healthcare creates an environment where residents can explore freely and safely:
- Secured locking system with keypad entry and alarm.
- Latch-style lock and window-stops to secure windows at the six-inch mark.
- Purpose-built nursing stations with limited access and increased security.
- Staffing ratios geared to meet the needs of this population.
Therapeutic Life Enrichment
Although they may not respond as they did prior to cognitive impairment, enrichment activities remain beneficial for this population.
We offer:
- Flexible and participative dining programs.
- Engaging supportive activities.
- Daily living routines.
- Programming incorporating normalization, social/group interaction, independence, family integration and community partnership.
